Chief Ray J. Tarasovic is pleased to welcome the Departments newest member of the Executive Command Staff: New Deputy Chief Alfred Durham! From Chief Tarasovic: It gives me great pleasure to announce the newest addition to our Executive Command Staff, Deputy Chief Alfred Durham. Al will assume oversight of our Administrative Services Division vacated by Tonya Vincent earlier this year. Alfred Durham comes to us from the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, where he retired as Assistant Chief on October 31, 2014, after 25 years of service. During his tenure, he served as the head of several departments and was most recently assigned as the Executive Officer in the Office of the Chief of Police, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the police force. In addition to his recent professional experience, Deputy Chief Durham previously served as Chief of Staff in the Richmond Police Department under Chief Rodney D. Monroe from 2005-2007. He was instrumental in our adoption of the Sector Policing concept that has provided significant impetus to our crime reduction and community policing efforts that continue today. He has significant experience with large public events, having been the planner for the 2005 Presidential Inauguration as well as central involvement with various special events in the nation’s capital. Deputy Chief Durham is a graduate of the FBI National Academy; has an Associates’ degree in Corrections Administration from the University of the District of Columbia and served in the United States Marine Corps for seventeen years before his retirement in 1999. I’m confident that Deputy Chief Durham will be an excellent addition to the Richmond Police Department, not only for our internal services, but for the city as a whole.
