Chief’s Babble…..on the radio show. Last night was pretty - TopicsExpress

Chief’s Babble…..on the radio show. Last night was pretty special to me. If you missed the entire hullabaloo, we had the debut of our radio show last evening on the Talk of Akron, WNIR 100 FM. Last night and today I was inundated with messages, emails and texts. As usual, I want to offer a few thoughts, in sort of an operational debriefing…. • The first few minutes I was extremely nervous. “Poland Joe” is the producer for the show and I believe he was equally nervous. I have been in some hairy situations in law enforcement. Because of that, I was able to pull back the nervousness and not have so much tunnel vision. After the first ten minutes or so, I felt as though I had been doing it for years. • The first caller was a prank. If you missed it, the knucklehead said “It puts the lotion on its skin or it gets the hose again.” That is a line from “Silence of the Lambs.” That call resulted in some of my officers texting me with raucous laughter. • The phone lines were jammed the entire three hours. Holy smokes, they were blinking all night. Several people said they tried to call for two straight hours and got a busy signal. We know people were listening Georgia, Arkansas, Texas, Massachusetts and a several other states. A bunch of them emailed us when we were on the air. The Crazy Cousin network was out in full force last night. Australia and the UK were on board and the WNIR smartphone app was working overtime. We also received lots of calls and emails from the Brimfield, Akron, and Cleveland/ NE Ohio friends! • We had a show full of sponsors, which was just fantastic. The owners of the station know me pretty well and know which type of sponsors I want on the show. That is not a bigheaded statement; it is just that want good, family oriented businesses on the show. We had that. • A very small percentage of people have commented negatively about me doing a radio show. They bring up ego and a lot of other nonsense. Take the time to look around at what we do for others and then get back to us on that comment. That is just not me; but my officers and staff, also. If we can bring awareness to what police really do and get the focus off of the .05% of officers who should be doing something else for a living….we will. • We had some great conversations on the air last night, with some really nice people. We also talked to a few who had been….drinking. That was a hoot. If you have not noticed…I enjoy conversation. I’m a talker. • Before rumors start….I enjoy being a police officer and love what we do at the Brimfield Police Department. I am close with my staff and they are some of the hardest workers I have ever been around. I am not leaving. I have six or so years until I can retire. I have always said that I am not one to hang around past the time I should be hanging around. There are officers behind me who have worked hard and deserve a shot at moving up. So, while I am not leaving anytime soon…I will not create a career logjam for them, either. Lastly….Thank-you. The love I have for the people on our pages cannot be described. You all have supported us, defended us and shown us lots of love and affection. The “fame” or being well known (according to some) has no impact on what we do here. I am in debt to all of you for the interaction and for being on a police department social media page. We are changing things, as a team. Have a great Sunday…..Chief Oliver.
