Chijindu David E. Umunnakwei Of All People. Today was my most annoying day on earth, no thanks to Chijindu David. It was exactly 4am today that I received a call from my aunty, who called to tell me about the latest cure for the dreaded Ebola disease. In other words she was the first person that deemed it fit to call me; she is among those who really wanted me to live in the land of the living at this time Ebola is trying to wipe us out of earth planet. My aunty broke the news about the cure or prevention of the Ebola disease, she instructively told me to wake up immediately and put a handful of salt in a bucket of hot water and use it to bath, according to the woman, the new drug was discovered by a certain powerful man of God, she also said I should drink a full cup of water mixed with the salt that once I do that I will be immune from catching Ebola. With all authority and audacity she insisted that I must rise up immediately to take the Ebola preventive if not cure measures. I even tried to beg her allow me conclude my sleep that if I wake I will do exactly as she said but to no avail, poor woman, she only wanted her beloved son alive, I understand the love of a caring foster mother was the thought in my mind.(That reminds me about the book In Our Mind; a pan Nigerian solution to national issues by Nigerian youths to be unveil by president Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday 12th August , one book I can only likened to the Achebe’s last book; There was a country. In going through the 489pages of the book; you will understand the mindset of the Nigerian youths, feel their frustrations and disappointments and undoubtedly see their resilience and creative ability, you will also see their readiness to make a meaningful impact in their country if given the opportunity. In Our Minds; produced by a great woman Mrs.Angela Onuko is one that any Nigerian youth must not fail to buy and read and if you will not make it to Abuja for the book launch, you book your copy(ies) here and I will deliver it at your door step. Thank you). Back to my sleep and my Nokia touch phone started ringing and vibrating again, this time around, it was L.L.Cooljay (Alobam) Excellency he called me nnaaa have you heard about this salt and water Ebola medicine of a thing, he asked, I told him my aunty just called me now and honestly I don’t know what she was talking about, Alobam Cooljay said Nnaa he heard the news and have so far taken his bath with the hot water mixed with salt. I said from where do your guys get this tale from? He said one certain powerful man of God, I said okay, let me conclude my sleep if I wake up in the morning I will find out myself that the cure. There is nothing one cannot see this part of the world, I sighed and went back to my sleep. Not quite long I tactfully dismissed my Aloba Cooljay that my editor called. Iyke are you still sleeping? Oh’ I was like maybe we got an urgent job to do but to my greatest amazement, Chijindu my editor also called for that same tale; adding salt to a bucket of hot water to cure Ebola, in fact, he went scientific in his own analysis, he even suggested that I should add olive oil in the hot salt bucket of water and make sure I didn’t dry my body after bathing. God, Is Chijindu really wanted me alive? I should not dry my body knowing how cold this place can be in the early morning, will cold not kill me? For more than 15miuntes Chijindu was educating me on the efficacy of the newly discovered Ebola preventive medicine without allowing me to say a word. Let me pause here to tell the world who Chijindu is , Chijindu is my boss, the editor in chief of motivators international magazine, a scientist and a UNN trained micro-biologist. Going by his pedigree, Chijindu is one person I think; most qualified I should go to in finding out the efficacy of adding salt to a bucket of hot water as cure for Ebola disease or any other disease but here, we are , Chijindu is as ignorant if not stupid as me who did not cut short his call and go back to my sleep, my aunty who first waked me up, my Aloba L.L.Cooljay and my uncle’s wife who prepared a very hot cup of salt water for me to drink at that ungodly hours . Honestly speaking , I can forgive my aunty, my Aloba L.L.Cooljay , my uncle’s wife and all those who disturbed my precious sleep with their senseless phone calls but I don’t think I can forgive Chijindu because I measure up a man by what he said he was/is. Chijindu my editor is a trained microbiologist who should educate me and all those ignorant masses about the cure and preventive measures for the dreaded Ebola disease which has no scientifically and medically certify cure for now. When the Nigerian-US based Professor Iwu came up with his research that cola nut could cure Ebola, I took him serious because he demonstrated some process of experimental research towards that. How could a microbiologist accept this most unscientific line of thinking that a mere adding of salt in a bucket of hot water to bath can cure bacteria? Something is really wrong somewhere, Chijindu of all people. I expected Chijindu and other medical scientist we have to join Prof.Iwu to truly develop cola nut for the cure of Ebola disease ravaging Africa and the rest of the world instead of blaming America for hoarding the yet to be tested little drug they produced for their people in case of outbreak of the epidemic in their country or resorting to this salt and hot water bath outrage. As far as I know for now, salt, hot water, if you like add olive oil or whatever to bath cannot cure Ebola or prevent it. Even the efficacy of prof. Iwu’s cola nut concoction has not been ascertained medically as a cure for the disease. And for my boss and editor Chijindu thank you so much for making my today the most annoying day on earth. Thank you so much Sir. Sorry this came late, no thanks to PHCN for withholding my light for several hours. TGIF.
