Chikungunya Virus The KSAC has also joined the public education - TopicsExpress

Chikungunya Virus The KSAC has also joined the public education campaign to educate our residents on the Chick V virus. Just last week, we met with representatives of the Public Health Department, to discuss the whole matter of containing its spread. While we do not wish to cause panic, we would like our residents to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing. Part of the campaign is to make sure that we are not harboring mosquito breeding sites, with cans, tyres, flower pots etc. In particular, it is important that as we seek to store water at this time, we make sure it is securely covered and treated. I know we are all concerned about the status of Chick V in our communities but I am pleading that we allow doctors to do the diagnosis. If you have flu like symptoms or any other symptom associated with Chick V, please seek medical attention. I take the opportunity to remind all of us that Chick V mimics several other diseases so making the distinction is not an easy matter and is best left to the professionals. I must also congratulate the Councillors here of the KSAC who have shown great interest in educating themselves and their communities on this matter. KSAC makes the commitment that we will continue to monitor the status and play our part.
