Child Support Enforcement Unit Hundreds of Scotland County - TopicsExpress

Child Support Enforcement Unit Hundreds of Scotland County fathers and mothers owe thousands of dollars in back child support payments. This has always been a big concern of mine, especially having a daughter who has faced this problem weekly, monthly and yearly for the last 16 years. If elected as your next Sheriff in November, we will do something about this insidious problem. Many of the children of parents who refuse to make their child support payments end up on some sort of government program, costing taxpayers millions of dollars annually. Our mission will be to assure that Scotland County Children in single-parent households are supported by their non-custodial parents. We will be committed to “making a difference in the lives of the children we serve”. The Sheriff’s Department will work closely with the Scotland County Child Support Division to do all we can to locate, arrest those who owe hundreds and thousands of dollars in back child support. Those that are arrested will not sit in jail doing nothing. It is my plans to work closely with the county commissioners and judicial system to find other alternatives forms of confinement (such as using electronic monitoring (EM) devices) which would allow the non-custodial parent to continue to work or find a job. When a non-custodial parent is in jail, he or she cannot work or find employment, meaning that the child is no closer in receiving the money than before. As Sheriff I will create a “Child Support Enforcement Unit” whose purpose will be to locate these deadbeat parents. I will implement an information hotline on the Sheriff’s Department Website for you to contact the department with any information that will help the Scotland County Sheriffs Office locate these deadbeat parents. We will work closely with other agency to help us locate these non-custodial parents. I believe by working together we can make sure that these parents support their children and take the burden from taxpayers. Ralph Kersey for Sheriff November 4, 2014
