Child services are prone to government knee-jerk reactions that put programs, jobs and children at risk. Afraid of reputational risk, politicians and managers make devastating decisions without the advise of those who hold the knowledge. So are we helpless? No, we must be bold, and bravely present integrity, evidence and theory, and be confident in the face of reactive, political whim. Those who seek to satisfy a hunger for power and ambition should stay well away from any field that supports vulnerable children...go be a banker or a mining magnate.
