Childhood memories... whats one of yours? Memories I watched - TopicsExpress

Childhood memories... whats one of yours? Memories I watched in the mornings as he added water to the cake of soap in the cream colored ceramic mug. He would mix the soap and water with a soft brush. Once there was enough soap on the brush he’d apply the soapy mixture to his face being careful not to miss a spot, he’d stretch his neck as he slathered the soap on it. Then he’d take the silver razor and add a new sharp blade to it. By twisting the bottom the top would open and he would very carefully drop the blade in side. The sink was filled with hot steamy water, after he’d take long careful stokes along his face he’d rinse off the razor. I watched this process for as many mornings as I could. I was always fascinated by the many faces of shaving. On mornings when he had extra time he would let me shave too, the soapy brush always tickled my face especially my upper lip. I would shave so slowly, deliberately, contorting my face as I shaved my hairy upper lip and being careful not to slit my own neck. I’d have to stand on his feet to be able to see in the mirror, because at 6 years old I wasn’t tall enough to see into the mirror on my own. We’d both put on after shave slapping the sides of our faces and strutting out of the bathroom. After all a Daddy and his daughter need to face the day looking good and smelling like Old Spice. It wasn’t until years later that I realized he had always taken the blade out of the razor when I shaved. I had always been so proud of not cutting myself.
