Children, New Membership Rules and Insurance Please note that with the new AHSA Ltd. Regulations pertaining to Membership, whoever the horse is registered to, including a child/ren, MUST be a financial Member in order to show that horse at any AHSA or AHSA Affiliate Show and in any breed class run under AHSA Rules. In regard to Children being covered by their parents Insurance, nothing has changed with respect to this and Gow Gates have confirmed that: The insuring clause for the Members states that cover is provided for Direct Members and Insurance Upgrade Members of the AHSA, against all sums which they shall become legally liable to pay as Damages and Costs and Expenses for accidental bodily injury or property damage to a third party. Cover is valid for claims which arise as a result of the Member’s use and/or ownership and/or control of a Horse(s) or Horse drawn vehicle(s) and direct participation by the Member in other non-income earning Horse related activities. Now what’s important here is the definition of “Member”. A Member is either: a) A Direct Member of the AHSA b) An Insurance Upgrade Member of the AHSA (paid through an AHSA Affiliate Group) c) If required by Law, the parent or guardian of the said Member. d) In the event of the death of the Member, their personal representative of the Member in respect of liability incurred by the Member. If you are not an AHSA Member or not an Affiliate Member who has paid for an Insurance Upgrade, the cover is the same as above apart from it covers Members of the AHSA Affiliated Clubs and Registered Participants, whilst attending authorised activities of the AHSA Affiliated Clubs. Therefore, the children are not covered under the Parent’s insurance. To benefit from the insurance every person must be a member, other than parents of junior members who do not participate in events in their own right. Junior Membership is $56.00 per year. If your child participates at AHSA or AHSA Affiliated Events six or more days per year, then it would be more beneficial for you to join your child up as an AHSA Junior Member. If your child is already a Member of an Affiliate Group, then you may wish to pay the $30.00 fee to upgrade them to Members Insurance. This way you are assured your child has all the benefits that our Members Insurance has to offer. PLEASE NOTE: It is the members/participants responsibility to provide the event organisers proof or Membership or proof of Insurance when completing your Liability Declaration. If you do not provide the required proof, then day participation forms and fees will be sought from the organizers in order for you and/or your children to participate at the event.
