Children are not supposed to die before their parents. That is not how the life process is supposed to unfold. And, when child loss occurs we are devastated -- knocked off our feet -- and we look at all of life differently from that point on. If the unimaginable can happen to us, then what else can happen? In an instant, we are no longer innocent to the fact that bad things really do happen to good people. Sweet children get sick and die. Accidents claim the lives of innocent children. Babies hearts stop beating too soon. We become fearful of the future -- and worry forms a cloud over us. If this could happen, what else might happen? We become overly protective, anxiety is part of our daily lives, and we forget how to be carefree. Child loss is a complex loss of not only our child, but also of a lot of us as a person, as well as our future. The brokenness of child loss is impossible to explain!
