Chili Fact of the Day: In 1994, the Red Savina Habanero was the first chili to enter into the Guinness Book of World Records as the hottest chili in the world, with 577,000 SHU. The record was held until 2007 when the Naga Bhut Jolokia chili from Assam India (known widely now as the Ghost Pepper) tipped the Scoville scale at 1,001,304 SHU. Since then, the record has been stolen by the Infinity Chili (7-Pot), the Naga Viper, and now currently sits with the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T at 1,463,700 SHU. Although some chilies have tested hotter (some reaching over 2 million SHU) since the Butch T took the record in 2011, none of those chilies have yet to be stabilized enough to produce a consistent result to earn the new record.
