And about Saturdays Shiprock Ke Hasin event I hope that some of us will be prepared to set up camp with awnings, burners, food, tables, chairs etc. We be here most of the day so we could do fun stuff like paint some signs, etc. It will be good time to do much needed brainstorming. Betsy and I can take some riders to St. Michaels on Thursday, pitch in for gas, let me know. We are Diné. We have Ke’ and values intended to give us a life of Hozho. Our Diné Life Principles with our language and culture remain intact and vibrant. These Life Principles form a pathway that we were to follow. We have strayed from that path, we must return restore? revitalize? to those values. We must engage our divine gift ofnitsahakiis and our Diné concepts of leadership to reclaim our identity and Sovereign Authority. The Navajo government is built on a foreign concept, we don’t know its roots. Within Native / Indigenous studies, there is plenty of literature regarding its roots e.g. colonialism, capitalism, racism etc. Native people have always known the roots merely because we are not settler people and don’t belong to that history. It was formed to exploit our natural resources and it has made a lot money for outsiders. It has left the elders behind voiceless? ignored?, the vast majority of us struggle financially, we are in a state of welfare. This need demands a retooling of the Diné government; we have the brains and courage to form a new government rooted in our Life Principles. The government retooling will be done through consensus by all concerned sitting in a council as equals. In this great exercise of nahata, we will all contribute our leadership to form a government that truly meets our iina life needs now and into the future. Local autonomy must be a perquisite. All matters of government must be done on our Diné terms. The opportunity to secure our Nation’s future is now. Our Earth Mother is in great peril; dangerous climate change, earthquakes, wild fires, erratic weather, drought, tornados are signs of her aguish. Our responsibility to the Earth is clear, we must act to defend her. We must stop the irresponsible exploitation of our lands, we must protect our waters at all cost. The life of the Earth is our life. The future of our children is our greatest lifework as it is our sihasin.
