Chima Onwuama: Igboist, biko manyenu onu nokwua, am not a regular writer here but I woke up today and decided to shear somthing with my people, am originally from Imo state but currently residing outside the country, am the only son of my mother and my mum passed away while I was still outside the country, my mother died while my residential permit was still inn for extention, I did all that I could to explain to the authorities that were responsible for permit extension so that i can have my permit to enable me attend to my mums funeral but all to no avail, after much consultations with my father and family we agreed to bury my mother without my presence, to the glory of God we did all as required and mum was laid to rest, after a while my permit was extended and I went home, at home I noticed that not even one person from my mothers side visited our house and when I inquired from my mothers side why non of them visited to welcome me, I was told that our tradition demands that I should be the one to visit them first and say sorry for the death of there sister who happened to be my mother before the can now come to my place, sorry cant bring back my mother but what am concerned about is this so called tradition, is this also applicable in your area? Bikonu nke onye chiri ya zere.
