China benefited from its huge diaspora, which began leaving China - TopicsExpress

China benefited from its huge diaspora, which began leaving China in the 1850s. This diaspora was responsible for the initial modernisation of industry and the economy beginning in 1979. Zimbabwe has treated its diaspora badly, and has not benefited adequately from diasporan technical, managerial, industrial and financial inputs. Yet the diaspora can be praised for supporting families during the sanctions period from 2002: nearly every family in Zimbabwe benefited from diaspora support in terms of food and other necessities. But the Zimbabwean diaspora has not invested in the economy or in industrialisation. Not even in farming. Whilst the Chinese treated their diasporas as investment Zimbabweans view their diasporas as traitors. Our education which Zimbabwe is known for is nothing but a piece so paper which translates into nothing but just a paper. Im sometimes left wondering why cant we implement any policy apart from education which is now turning out to be our number one enemy. Because there is no deliberate effort from our government to attract them or even to take steps to begin tapping into their experience of industrialisation in the diaspora. I find our situation very difficult to ever come out of. Like for instance Arthur Mutambara is one person who is respected world over as a consultant. Britains big organisations rely on our own Arthur for consulting yet if you speak to a politician or an ordinary Zimboo he is just one of those idiots. I wish we knew what we do to our country through ignorance maybe we can turn back the hand of time and finally head somewhere.
