China has established an “air defense zone” over some small islands in the East China Sea, called Senkaku in Japanese and Diaoyu in Chinese. These islands have been a source of tension between China and Japan for decades. There may be oil deposits under the ocean near the islands, so there is competition between China and Japan over this natural resource. The tensions between the two countries are increasing and may lead to warfare.
