China is for those of you that have always been drawn to the east: - TopicsExpress

China is for those of you that have always been drawn to the east: its unique philosophies, its rich history, the amazing architecture and landscapes, and its hard working and fascinating people. In such a large country, with so much history, you have no shortage of places to visit. Of course the Great Wall of China is an epic architectural masterpiece, and a visit to China without seeing this remarkable 5,500 mile long fortress would be a sin. Another fantastic piece of architecture and history is the Forbidden City located in Beijing. Construction for this palace took fourteen years and required more than 1 million workers. And all was laid by hand, and lifted without modern machinery. Inside this Forbidden Palace now lies a museum that hosts artifacts from the Ming and Qing dynasties. If you want to travel a bit more off the beaten path, and see the epic landscape of China visit the Yuanyang county in the Yunnan province. You will see the classic rice terraces that stretch for miles... endless green layers interspersed with bodies of water. For cliffs and mountains that rise up into the fog, visit the Zhangjiajie National Park. Both Avatar and parts of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon were filmed here. No matter where you go in China, the people will welcome you, and in smaller towns and provinces, if you can mange to learn a few Mandarin and/or Cantonese phrases, you can get to know the locals as you visit small eateries and roadside markets.
