China remembers end of Japanese militarism On July 26th, 1945, Sixty-nine years ago today, #China, the UK and the US jointly issued the #Potsdam Proclamation, outlining the terms of Japans surrender. The declaration followed a gathering by US President Harry Truman, UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Soviet Union leader Joseph Stalin, who met to make the crucial decisions that would end the #SecondWorldWar. Some major provisions of the proclamation included: 1. The elimination of Japanese militarism 2. The restriction of Japanese sovereignty to the islands of Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku, and minor islands The Japanese Empire ultimately rejected the proclamation, which resulted in the dropping of the Atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6th and 9th 1945. Now nearly, 70 years later, some people think the proclamation is as relevant as ever. CCTVNews expert Victor Gao tells us why.
