Chinese ambassador visits Manchester to discuss trade links The Queen’s ambassador to China has told businesses about the benefits of trading in the Far East. During a visit to Manchester this week Barbara Woodward hosted a series of roundtable events with business leaders to discuss how best to develop bilateral trade and investment links between the region and China. Organised by the China-Britain Business Council in Manchester, the discussions centred on trade, art and culture, and education links. A range of Greater Manchester businesses joined discussions on how to deepen co-operation with China, building on the partnership that the Prime Minister and Premier Li Keqiang reaffirmed last year. Among the attendees were Halle Concerts Society, the National Football Museum, Manchester Metropolitan University and the Universities of Manchester and Bolton. Clothing company Regatta, Language Brand Communications, PTG Advanced Developments, EDM Limited, Hughes Safety Showers and Arup also attended. The session was chaired by Clive Drinkwater, UKTI’s North West Regional Director. During the visit Ms Woodward also met newly appointed Consul General of China Li Yongsheng. Ms Woodward said, I am delighted to meet a range of businesses here in Manchester, representing a wide range of sectors from clothing and retail to architecture and advanced manufacturing.
