Chipper Jones will have his number 10 retired by the Braves later this month. Chipper will be the 10th player/manager to have his number retired by the Braves. He will, however, be the first player to have his number retired by the Braves who actually spent his entire MLB career with the Braves. #3 Dale Murphy played for the Phillies and Rockies at the end of his career. #6 Bobby Cox managed the Blue Jays and played for the Yankees. #21 Warren Spahn pitched for the Mets and Giants and the end of his career. #29 John Smoltz pitched for the Red Sox and Cardinals in his final year. #31 Greg Maddux pitched for the Cubs before coming to the Braves. After leaving the Braves he pitched for the Cubs, Padres, and Dodgers. #35 Phil Niekro pitched for the Yankees, Indians, and Blue Jays after leaving the Braves after 1983 season and returned to the Braves to make one last start in 1987 to retire as a Brave. #41 Eddie Matthews played the final 2 years of his career with the Astros and Tigers. Matthews does hold the distinction of being the only player to have played for the Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves. #44 Hank Aaron played the final 2 years of his career for the Brewers, returning to Milwaukee, the city where he spent the first 12 seasons of his career as a Brave before the team moved to Atlanta in 1966. #47 Tom Glavine left the Braves after the 2002 season and signed with the Mets, and would spend 5 years playing for the Braves rival before returning to the Braves in 2008 (his final season).
