Chipping Away For Solutions If there is one question that Black people desperately want some type of answer, it is How can we achieve success? In other words, what is the answer; what is the solution; what do we NEED to do. I shall provide some historical advice - in no particular order - that if we keep in mind I believe we can dramatically increase our chances of becoming successful. 1. We are in a war. It is extremely important that we comprehend the dynamic nature of this war. 2. Easier said than done, but we NEED to FOCUS. One of the characteristics of this war is DISTRACTION, and we are so distracted by anything and everything that thrown into vortex that looks like immediate gratification, only to discover that our will to challenge and to establish a collective discipline to accomplish the monumental goal has been infiltrated. 3. Imagine becoming successful - Imagination is more important than knowledge. I think we need to vividly and accurately imagine our success - what does that look like - than I believe it will become easier for the rest to follow through. Think of an engineer who first imagines a bridge and then builds it. We are the engineers to our success too. 4. Identity the skills we need, ranging from individual AND collective patients, collective cultural respect, spiritual connection, ancestral homage and atonement, political astuteness, economic peripherals, objective sacrifices - just to name a few, that will sharpen our ability necessary for success. It must also be noted to those skills we can outsource. 5. It is extremely necessary that we define the meaning of success as we see it; to establish and find the purpose of our goal, and to understand the TIMELINE that objectives would/should/could be achieved. 6. That we UNSELFISHLY act with remembrance that todays success does not guarantee todays happiness. In short, we must calculate for tomorrows generation. 7. Domestic Leadership Education - For any society to prosper it should have a endogenous system of identifying, training and coaching its future leaders. Yes, we do have a lot of brilliant individuals in our family, but collectively they fail to work together harmoniously on a long term vision, and most importantly, they fail in making a national commitment with integrity and loyalty at its premise. 8. The Crab Mentality - A major headache is our struggle to support each other. If you put several crabs into a bucket, the minute one of them begins to crawl out, one or more of the other crabs will pull it back down and prevent its escape. It’s called Crab Mentality. This is a good metaphor for us as Africans to Unite and create strong networks that support each other, while avoiding the Judas goats. 9. Use technology, dont let it use us. 10. Execute our small objectives and dont find reasons to procrastinate 11. Gather as much information as you can. Listen. Study. Understand. Learn. Repeat. 12. Find a mentor. 13. Be persistent 14. Remove fear and doubt from our way of thinking. This is simply a brief and by no means a complete list of our requirements, but Im of the view that we can come out of this war victorious, but we have to earn the rewards and benefits. There are many parts that MUST come together. Think of a Chess Game - one has to know how all the pieces move, when to finesse, when to assert; when to mislead, when/how to suggest... If we are able to collectively combine these skills well find ourselves moving toward victory.
