Chipping away at the project 62 Corvette. After stripping about - TopicsExpress

Chipping away at the project 62 Corvette. After stripping about 98% of the paint by sanding, I am touching up the (hard to get to areas) with sand blasting equipment. The areas in question are the body drip rails, (where there is a small step recess) around the body for the hood, trunk, and hatch cover to lay flush with the cars body. Careful consideration must be given to protect the cars already sanded original body from the harshness of sand blasting. For this, I increased the distance of the blasting nozzle from the body, and used a strafing motion. Tape was placed on the body, up to the edge of the portion to be blasted for extra precaution. This produced the desired result without any damage to the body panels. The undersides of the hood, convertible top hatch, and trunk lid was blasted as well. These three pieces dont need the perfect finish on the underside that the outer body surface needs, and thus blasting was acceptable in those areas. Another step toward the body and paint room just a few feet away. Next up, a few mechanical issues...new gas tank...new radiator and custom fan/shroud combination to be fabricated and fitted into the Corvette. More coming up soon!
