Chiranjeevi (bornKonidala Siva Sankara Vara Prasad on 22 August 1955)[1] is anIndian film actor, producer, politician and a member of theIndian National Congress. He is the Minister of State withindependent charge forMinistry of Tourism,Government of India.[2] Prior to politics, Chiranjeevi has worked primarily inTelugu Cinema includingTamil,Kannada andHindi films. He made his acting debut in 1978 through the filmPunadhirallu[3] However,Pranam Khareedu released earlier at thebox office.[4] Owing to his box-office appeal, popular entertainment magazines,Filmfare, andIndia Today quoted him "Bigger than Bachchan", a reference to Bollywood’sAmitabh Bachchan.[5] In 1987, He became the first south Indian actor to be invited at the59th Academy Awards ceremonyademy Awards ceremony.[6][7] News magazineThe Week hailed him as "The new money machine".[8]Gharana Mogudu, the blockbuster movie was the firstTelugu film to gross over 10 crore rupees at the box office.
