Chitra Santhe 2015 It is Eleven Years since the inception of the Chitrasanthe. This year the arrangements are already under way for this mega event and Chitrakala Parishath has received over 1500 applications from all over the country. This year also the Parishath is expecting to celebrate the Santhe with all good hope that the artists will sell their art works and make their livelihoods. They have invited Honble Chief Minister to inaugurate the event. The Minister of Kannada & Culture, Minister of Education, Minister of Home, Agriculture and other public personalities are participating. This years event is a very special one as Department of Kannada & Culture, Govt of Karnataka is supporting the Santhe. AIMS AND OBJECTTVES OF KARNATAKA CHITRAKALA PARISHATH The Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath was established in the year 1960 and for over five decades of its purposeful existence, has become a cultural landmark of Karnataka. The Parishath aims at developing and fostering Indian Visual Arts (Traditional, Modern, Contemporary etc.) and promotes research, preservation, appreciation and in depth study of various visual art forms. It conducts Art exhibitions at State, National and International leve1s, and has established the autonomous College of Fine Arts which offers both Under-graduate and Post-graduate courses in Painting, Sculpture, Applied Art, Graphic Art and Art History. The College of Fine Arts is alfiliated to Bangalore University. The Parishath has an excellent collection of Mysore style Traditional Paintings and Leather Puppets and also has Short Term courses in Paintings. It has a vast art complex to meet international standards and also exclusive permanent displays of contemporary art, traditional art, puppets, modern art collections etc., in its perrnanent gallery museum It has undertaken the publishing of many books on fft related subjects. Both the Central and State Lalitkala Academy have recognized the Parishath, attracting the attenlion of a wide spectrum of art and art lovers. It arranges demonstrations, extensive lectures, exhibition of visual arts and hosts camps ald festivals like Chitra Santhe which will be held Chitrasanthe encourages the interaction of a-rtists and art lovers drawn from all over the country. The main focus of this Santhe is getting the artists on a single platform to demonstrate and showcase their creativity and their contributions towards art. It also identifies and encourages upcoming artists. The Santhe helps to educate people effectively about art and propagates the importance of art in life and helps to promote interest in visual arts. Hitherto Visual Art has been dubbed as elitist and catering to only certain section of the society. The Chitrasanthe is organized to overcome such drawbacks and make Art make Art affordable and available for all sections of the society. It aims to elevate the general awareness of art in public. By conducting Chitra santhe, they are not only popularize paintings and artists, but artists from the rural area and hinder-1and of the country will have an unique opportuni.ty to show their works to all sections of the society. Talent from the Regional and rural section will be exposed through Chitra Santhe. Many personalities from professional galleries also visit Chitra santhe They are able to scout new talent and encourage upcoming artists About 1500 artists from all over the country are expected to participate. About 3 lakh people are expected to visit Chitra santhe. This is the 12th consecutive year of Chitra Santhe and artists exhibit and sell their paintings in this Chitrakala Maha-Sangam. The santhe also aims to educate Art Lovers with its vast portfolio. The prices at which the paintings are sold in Chitra Santhe are not only affordable to all sections of the society but also brings audience close to visual arts. By popularizing art, the general public will gradually get educated about visual arts as in Europe and other countries where art and its appreciation is a way of life. Santhe has developed its scope as a national festival. It is proven fact that, nowhere in the country such a large gathering of artists and art loving visitors are recorded. .
