Chittenden County Senators checking in - Heres the response I received from Senator Zuckerman. Perhaps hes getting a many emails/calls in support of our opposition? Apologies for the long post but thought youd find some of the responses helpful - Hi Lawrence, I appreciate your writing to me and I do try to get back to everyone. This particular session there has been a large outpouring of comments on a few different pieces of legislation and I am doing my best to catch up. My apologies for any delay. With respect to the background check legislation, I am supportive of efforts to reduce access to guns for those with either a history of violence or those with mental health issues that have not been adequately resolved. Whether this legislation is the right way to do that remains to be seen. I also fully respect the rights of others to have guns. I have a number of friends who have guns and are giving me good information with respect to where this legislation has issues and where the law already covers some of the concerns of the advocates for the legislation. I am aware that there is real concern regarding the long term slippery slope of gun laws. I am also well aware of the rights of the constitution. I know many of my colleagues are concerned that this legislation is not drafted in a productive way as well. I suspect that the legislation that we may ultimately vote on will be significantly different than what has been introduced. I plan to reserve judgement on how I would vote until I see what the end result is. I do have strong feelings that the democratic process will work well with this legislation. Given the number of people interested (on all sides), I can assure you this will not move quickly, nor will it move without serious deliberation. Thank you- Sen. David Zuckerman
