Chomsky once said that if Martians ever came to Earth they would think that everyone spoke to same language - so overwhelming are the similarities. We, of course, are largely aware of the differences and difficulties of mutual understanding. Germanic philosophical and sociological thought is like that. A Martian would see that is only on about about one thing - the iron cage of our limitations. No one escapes except, perhaps, the later Wittgenstein.
