Chong Wei to knowfate on Wednesday By AJITPAL SINGH - 3 November 2014 @ 8:12 AM THE fate of Lee Chong Wei will be known in three days as the B sample of his urine will be tested in Oslo, Norway in the presence of the World No 1. Several broadcast journalists have booked their flights to Oslo to cover the event on Wednesday but the Badminton World Federation (BWF) will only release a statement the next day. The three-time All England champion will be accompanied by National Sports Institute chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz and the result will be made known to them the same day. Chong Wei’s urine sample was taken after his semi-final win over Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen in the World Championships on Aug 30. His urine is said to show traces of the banned substance dexamethasone, a steroid commonly used for rehabilitation. Chong Wei and BAM were informed of the failed dope test on Oct 2 and the shuttler decided to challenge the result on Oct 16. It is learnt that NSI is investigating whether the drug was taken as part of his medical treatment. Chong Wei received stem cell injections in July to treat a thigh injury. NSI said the traces of the banned substance were minimal. Many fans are speculating that Chong Wei may have used traditional medicine, which contained the banned substance, from China. Former China captain Li Weiguo disclosed recently that the shuttler may have taken herbal medicine, which he always does, to treat his injury. Chong Wei may have taken dexamethasone unintentionally four days before the semi-final match at the world meet, as the substance can only remain in the body between 36 and 108 hours.
