Choosing Character Over Reputation Common sense doesnt mean - TopicsExpress

Choosing Character Over Reputation Common sense doesnt mean common action. Are we acting upon what we know is to be true? The book, Resolved: 13 Resolutions for Life by Orrin Woodward contains fundamentals that have been true for centuries, but they still apply today. Making a decision (followed by the action) to place character above all else is a timeless distinction. I resolve to choose character over reputation any time they conflict. Your character is who you are; your reputation is who other people say you are. To sin by silence when they should protest, makes cowards of men. -Abraham Lincoln Its always the right time to do the right thing. --Martin Luther King Reputation is the surface, and character is the core. Integrity is the core. Without it, no one will follow you. People of integrity will still receive criticism, but they are willing to let time prove them right. If they make a mistake, they dont try to hide it; they own up to it. Leaders with integrity expect to be believed, and they have the courage of their convictions. A man does not call a line crooked unless he has an idea of a straight line. --C.S. Lewis Do we demonstrate integrity all the time? Never lie. A persons worth is as good as his word. In reality, lying is a result of low self-esteem. Lies warp a persons character confusing the truth in the persons own mind. The truth is good enough. The exception to this rule is when it comes to someone elses reputation. Do not spread gossip, even if it happens to be true. Unless a person is always humble, constantly questioning himself, he will not be able to stand for long, the truth passing him by. Be conscious of our internal dialog, and put your best foot forward. Lead by example and be courageous and bold. Do not commit that sin of omission, and choose character over reputation every time.
