Chris Kamara says he does not believe Alan Pardew will leave Newcastle United to take over as Crystal Palace manager. Pardew was cut to odds-on favourite with Sky Bet at 2/7 on Monday to take over at Selhurst Park after Neil Warnock was sacked on Saturday. The speculation developed after Pardew left his assistant John Carver to speak to the media following the 3-2 win over Everton on Sunday. But Kamara told Sky Sports News HQ that he cannot see Pardew leaving St James’ Park after signing an eight-year contract in 2012. “I dont believe Alan Pardew will go to Palace for one minute,” said the Sky Sports pundit. “Newcastle had 10 months of disappointment. The fans were baying for blood but Mike Ashley stood by him. No disrespect to Crystal Palace but Newcastle are a massive club. Do you walk out of Newcastle and go to Crystal Palace? Chris Kamara No disrespect to Crystal Palace but Newcastle are a massive club. Do you walk out of Newcastle and go to Crystal Palace? You get the sack from Newcastle and then your next job is Crystal Palace - thats fair enough. I cant believe it but then nothing surprises you in football! Pardew has had an up-and-down season at St James’ Park, surviving calls to be sacked after a poor start and then being named Premier League Manager of the Month in November after six successive wins. Although they subsequently lost four in a row in December, they snapped that streak with victory over the Toffees on Sunday. Former Magpies defender Steve Howey says the speculation about Pardew leaving has ‘come out of nowhere’, but could see why he might be looking to move on. “Its a strange one. Crystal Palace is a fantastic club with great fans but why would you want to leave Newcastle for them? As a manager you want to go higher and higher,” he told Morning View. John Carver took the post-match press conference after Newcastles win over Everton “But looking at it from a different angle, Alans been under a lot of pressure from the fans. Even during the great runs of form they havent exactly taken to him; there have been questions over his substitutions, his tactics. “He might think hes taken the team as far as he can, he might not get a lot of money in the transfer window and hes got an affinity with Crystal Palace having been there as player.” Pardew made more than 100 appearances during a four-year spell with Palace, who are currently being managed by caretaker boss Keith Millen. Millen helped Palace secure a goalless draw at QPR on Sunday and Kamara said it was a case of back to basics for the Eagles. I spoke to Keith Millen at the hotel the night before the game and at the ground beforehand and they went back to basics, he said. They went without a striker, stuck Wilfried Zaha up front and said we need to grind out a result. Theyve got a lot of credit for showboating but they want credit for defending properly and they did that yesterday. Its a point for them on the road to recovery.
