Chris Ngige plans to challenge the election in court. The All Progressives Congress, APC, has boycotted the rescheduled election in Obosi, Idemili North, Anambra State. The party accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of “systematically” rigging the election held on Saturday. “Yes. I can confirm that we have boycotted the ongoing election in Obosi. We cannot patronise fraud again. APC is a party of ideas not mediocrity,” Joe Igbokwe of the APC, told PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday. Earlier, Chris Ngige, the party’s candidate in the gubernatorial election, described the election as a “mockery of democracy.” “It is unfortunate, we are toying with the future. We are destroying the hope of those coming behind,” Mr. Ngige said at a press conference on Sunday. “Our children will one day rise up and ask why they were born in this part of the world. I weep for Nigeria. This generation has decided not to bequeath anything good to coming generations,“ he added. Saturday’s election was marred with late arrival of voting materials, disenfrachisement of willing voters, and pockets of violence. But late Saturday, the INEC announced that election was not conducted in 65 polling units in Obosi and rescheduled it on Sunday. Idemili North with 173,832 registered voters and 306 polling units has the largest voting bloc in the state. Mr. Ngige, a serving Senator, frowned at the idea of fixing an election on a Sunday, when people would rather be in church. “Nobody knows where we will go to from here in 2015. As it is, we will ask for a total cancellation of the entire exercise giving the degree of fraud, especially the question of result sheets not being sent with other sensitive materials,” he said. “There is provision for us to seek redress from the Tribunal to the Appeal Court down to the Supreme Court and we will take full advantage of this,” he added. Meanwhile, voting has continued in Obosi, but correspondents say that APC party agents are absent at polling units.
