Chris Pine is overrated... A shame Paramount will stick with him. He spoiled TREK for me, and now the second franchise. Sentence from Jack Ryan review. Unfortunately his looks and family connections seem to keep getting him reboot and remake roles as Paramount and Hollywood sell us dumbed down crap. Personally, as a straight female I think his looks are pretty ordinary. Dont get me wrong. Hes good looking. But hes a blond white guy with blue eyes. Nothing interesting about his appearance. Someone said he looked like a living Ken doll. Too true. Hes like a poster boy for generic notions of attractiveness. His roles similarly are very generic. Maybe he has some niche talent that hell discover in future. But right now hes a bit dull for my taste and the fact that he keeps getting cast as cutesy versions of already well-known characters isnt helping me like him. One of my brothers friends just posted something on Facebook about how awesome the credits for Jack Ryan were (Nothing about the actual film. He liked the shell script used as hes an IT man.) and his wife went on about how hot Chris Pine is. *groan* I know people will call it sour grapes or something but I really cant stand it. To add to my annoyance I just came across an old review for the 2009 Trek film saying that Pine is annoying but very much Captain Kirk by the close (The fact that the review was titled JJ Abrams Star Trek lives long and prospers didnt help). Pfft. Another review said he was less annoying in Into Darkness (Although still annoying). Oddly, thats a sentiment that seemed to be shared by some other people who arent too keen on the reboot. Personally, I found the whole demoted. Promoted to First Officer. Captain again in five minutes then Dead. Alive. Captain again by end of film. Status quo for all thing just another ridiculous thing following the first films from Cadet to Captain in 48 hours thing, added to the fact that he was still being a sleazy little a-hole and being rude to his crewmates without showing any complexity whatsoever (Once again, Shatners Kirk is a pants man but still a professional). Again, I know I said I wouldnt pick on the actors but this kid (Okay...a bit weird for me to call him kid when hes 10 years older than me) seems to be riding the hype of the reboot without showing a shred of uniqueness or range (Unlike most of the actors who, whilst I dislike the ways their characters are written, are obviously talented). He seems like a nice guy. Im just not a fan of his career thus far. And whilst girls (and guys) have every right to admire his looks, I find it annoying when people gush over somebodys looks without any consideration of their actual talent. I mean, Keanu Reeves isnt a bad looking guy by hes dull as cardboard.
