Chris Webb Right all you helpful people out there, have a question which is puzzling myself and wife. My wife (after many, many years on sda and incapacity benefit) was called for a review to be put onto ESA. She duly attended her medical and we waited for the outcome, after hearing and reading so many horror stories about incorrect assessments we waited nervously expecting to have to fight for what she is due. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the medical board had actually agreed that she is unable to work and would therefore NOT be required t seek employment and was thus moved onto income related ESA, and that owing to the reassessment was entitled to a higher payment ! We are of course grateful for this but, HERE IS THE RUB, the new rate commences 2 months AFTER the medical. If she had made a claim and won the benefit is payable from the claim date, if she had FAILED the medical her money would have STOPPED from that date. So why wait 2 months to implement an increase for something she qualified for. We have rung DWP but the answer was err, err, err well thats just the way it is. WE ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THIS ANSWER. Has ANYONE got any advice or similar experience? We are going to take this further, it may only be a few quid but if this is happening across the board then someone is saving (wrongly) a bleeding fortune. OVER TO YOU GUYS PLEASE.
