Christchurch - Mother stands up for young children bullied by religious teachers. NZ Ministry of Education has questions to answer. In 2006 the Ministry of Education prepared guidelines to prevent religious discrimination in state schools. One of the guidelines protected childrens privacy by making Bible classes opt-in and out of class time, this way non-religious children can stay anonymous of they wish. After interference by a senior MP, the guidelines were buried leaving children who dared opt-out to be stood up and marched out of class in front of their friends. In many schools this has degenerated into outright bullying of minority children. Despite the discriminatory situation being outlawed in the US, Canada, and banned in Australia, New Zealand Secretary of Education Peter Hughes has refused to engage. Is it time our MOE was held to account? 3news.co.nz/Mother-crusades-for-religion-free-schools/tabid/423/articleID/353886/Default.aspx
