Christian Film Production Tips: Hello everyone, hope you had a wonderful weekend? Last week someone asked me a question about camera settings, that there is a special colour setting in camera for love scene and another one for mourning, he said that was what he was taught at the film school he attended. I told him that there is nothing like that, probably he forgot what he was taught or he did not understand what he heard because I do not expect anyone to teach such an erroneous lecture. My brother, there is nothing like a special setting for romance inside any camera. You can only use light to paint your scene as you desire, to depict whatever you want - that is the starting point, you will then complete it on the computer using relevant software and techniques. We shall talk more on this during the post production stage. You know we can compare our necks to a tripod, try it now and you will agree with me that our necks function perfectly like a tripod. Did you notice that? If you are asking what a tripod is? A tripod is that three legged steals that stands a camera. You know you can tilt up and down, you can pan to the right and to the left, you can also pan-tilt through your tripod, you can do the same with your neck. If you cant do this with your neck, moving your head the way you want, then you need medical or divine help. Another comparism we can make is our legs; the leg can be compared to a steadicam or glidecam. You see, whenever you are running, though your head and neck will be in motion, however, what you will see with your eyes wont be jumpy, your picture will be stable. The same goes for a steadicam or glidecam, it helps to stabilize picture. Steadicam, as the name implies makes the camera steady while a glidecam is like half of a steadicam, you can glide through forest with a glidecam and you can even run with it, we have the two of them in our organization. There is really nothing I can compare with track and dolly in our body, except a man on a wheel chair, likewise, there is nothing we can compare to crane in our body. Concerning the sensor that we started three weeks ago, the pixels in a sensor can be likened to the brain cells, we have trillions of brain cells that interprets what the eyes sees to the brain. Lets dive a little deeper into camera science. Have you ever wondered why some phones like nokia lumia 1020 has 41 mega pixel and canon 5d mk3 has 23.4 megapixel. If you have the choice between these two, would you prefer the one with higher pixel? Camera manufacturers have adopted larger sensors to emulate the look of film for characteristics such as resolution, optics and dynamic range. Although different sensors may be of a similar physical dimension, they don’t all use the same number of pixels. A RED EPIC and a Canon 7D use similarly sized sensors, but the resulting pixels are quite different. Three measurements come into play: the actual dimensions, the maximum area of light-receiving pixels (photosites) and the actual output size of recorded frames. One manufacturer might use fewer, but larger photosites, while another might use more pixels of a smaller size that are more densely packed. There is a very loose correlation between actual pixel size, resolution and sensitivity. Larger pixels yield more stops and smaller pixels give you more resolution, but that’s not an absolute. RED has shown with EPIC DRAGON that it is possible to have both. Dont let this theory overwhelm you; we need this knowledge so that we wont be jumping at every camera produced. The Christian Film Institute site is still under construction, when we are through I will be able to show you videos and pictures. If you miss any of the posts go to Christian film institute page. Like I said, we will continue from where we stop next week Monday. Remember you can repost/share and please feel free to ask your questions. Till next week, stay tuned and keep your God-given dreams alive, God bless!
