Christian Working Woman: November Newsletter Marys Moment Often God gives us pop quizzes and we dont even realize it. Pop quizzes are unexpected, and they catch us off guard. Here are some examples of Gods pop quizzes: 1. Someone says something unkind and you have an opportunity to respond. Thats a pop quiz, and God is testing you to see if youll handle it the Bibles way or your way. 2. A gossip session is begun and you have to decide whether to join in or not. Thats a pop quiz and you can pass or fail. 3. God urges you to give some money to someone in need and youre having difficulty writing the check. 4. Youre watching something on television which is not edifying and you have to decide whether youll turn it off or not. 5. You have an opportunity to give a verbal witness for Jesus, and you have to decide if youll talk or keep your mouth shut. In order to do well on pop quizzes, you have to do your homework. If you didnt read the material like you were supposed to, those pop quizzes will catch you. But if you know youre likely to have a pop quiz now and then, it motivates you to be prepared. The same is true with Gods pop quizzes. You and I will fail them often if were not doing the things that keep us closely in touch with Jesus, that teach us how to respond, that give us the spiritual muscle we need to pass our tests. You cant wait until youre in the middle of the pop quiz to read the Bible. You have to do it ahead of time. You cant pass these pop quizzes with emergency prayers; you have to stay prayed up. When you and I are building a close and growing relationship with Jesus on a daily basis, well be prepared for most of those pop quizzes that come our way. And the more we know him, the better grades well make because we have his Spirit operating in us to empower us with the knowledge and strength we need to pass the pop quizzes.
