Christian Yoga is under discussion. In 2005, Christianity Today featured an article titled, Yes to Yoga in 2005, which detailed the authors positive experience with yoga and deep breathing, However, the new exercise trend is a red flag for most Christians because of its deep roots to Hinduism – a pantheistic religion that involves emptying of the mind and using bodily positions to connect with the divine. In a Headline Prime News segment on CNN, MacArthur said, The idea of Christianity is to fill your mind with biblical truth and focus on the God who is above you. Thats Christian worship. The idea of yoga is to fill your mind with nothing except to focus on yourself and try to find the god that is inside of you. From a Christian viewpoint, thats a false religion. Exercise is a different issue. If its just purely exercise, and youre a strong Christian, it probably wouldnt have any impact on your faith. But in the big picture, why would Christians want to borrow an expression from a false religion, from pantheism? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As a Hindu and follower of Yoga I have something to say. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unless one see yoga as a science of physiology and science of psychology one can see difficulties in accepting yoga. Meditation can be done on Jesus also. one need not say Om , unless one is able to listen it himself. Hinduism has nothing to do with yoga. Yoga is not emptying mind but filling the mind with one single thought . May it be a God or may it be Jesus or may it be an Ideal. So Yoga can fit itself into any religion . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
