Christians: Too often, we are too busy pointing the finger - TopicsExpress

Christians: Too often, we are too busy pointing the finger (figuratively or literally) at the other person in our personal relationships (friends, more than friends, or spouses), for all the problems we face... Yet, if we think about it, and be completely honest with ourselves... we may discover that these same problems have been occurring in our previous relationships too. We can see a pattern has formed. Guess what: the problem may very well be within YOU! A big step toward maturity and humility is realizing that you may be your own worst enemy, and be willing to submit the godly wisdom of those more seasoned Christians that God places in your life to learn from. God, I am jacked up! Such a bold step requires surrendering your pride, biting your tongue, and accepting the sometimes painful lessons of learning humility and growing stronger in Christ, by recognizing your weaknesses and giving them to Him to handle. Heres a practical exercise: When someone that loves you, says something hurtful like, Its always everybody elses fault with you! or you never listen! or something similar.... do NOT lash out and heap abuses on them. STOP! Ask them (gently and softly), Does it really seem like that? Now SAY NOTHING and LISTEN CAREFULLY. Ask God to reveal to you any patterns or character flaws that is leading them to say such things... ask Him to help you overcome them. Expect, when you ask Him to change you, and are genuinely sorry for causing others such pain and frustration, that the tears will come... but that is part of healing. I suggest, if you want God to mold you into His masterpiece... tell Him this: God, forgive me. Im so sorry. Take away my selfish pride and foolishness. I dont want to be like this anymore. Empty me of me. Fill me with you, with your sweet and gentle Holy Spirit. When I speak to people, I want them to hear YOU Lord, not me. I want to build them up, not tear them down. I want them to crave to be around me, not try to avoid me because of my foolish tongue and selfishness. I want to bring you glory, not shame. I love you, Lord. Have your way in me, Lord. Have your way.
