Christians are DO-ers – all others need not even apply! Luke - TopicsExpress

Christians are DO-ers – all others need not even apply! Luke 9:57-62 59To another He [Jesus] said, “Follow me.” But [that person answered], “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” 60But Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61Another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62Jesus said to him, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” Being Christian means you’re a no-excuses accepted DO-er. If you are NOT that type of person, if you dwelling on the past in ANYWAY that even delays action right NOW, or even makes you any less effective at doing God’s work today, if you are NOT taking care of the people that are with you TODAY, it ain’t going to matter what your excuses are, Jesus would be rude and ruthless about calling-out such people. Bluntly put: THEY ARE NOT FIT FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD! If we update the agrarian analogy of v62 we might phrase that by stating the obvious: anyone who drives their car by only looking in the rearview mirror, shouldn’t be allowed on the road, let alone in heaven! Don’t BS me and say you’re doing the funeral for the sake of the dead person (I’ve never known anyone to complain about their funeral). Rather focus on the hearts of the living! The people that are with you TODAY! They are what counts. Throughout the Bible, God is ruthlessly intolerance of those that cripple the present by dwelling on the past: Lot’s wife [Genesis 19:26], Israelites that romanticized their days as slaves [Numbers 14], etc. All are ruthlessly denied future blessings. Rather God is clear, as note in Psalm 118:24 “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” If you’re calling yourself a Christian, than you better be a DO-er. Enjoy TODAY right NOW! Don’t risk losing the blessings God put in your life. If you’re calling yourself a Christian, then you’re going to have to be a DO-er. Proclaim the kingdom of God! Take care RIGHT NOW of the people and blessings God put in your life, TODAY and EVERYDAY! Just a thought. All views on today’s reading are welcome.
