Christie’s first half sales increase 9%, supported by records - TopicsExpress

Christie’s first half sales increase 9%, supported by records set for Jackson Pollock and Jean-Michel Basquiat. “Dustheads” (1982) by Jean Michel Basquiat was estimated at $25mm to $35mm and sold for US$48.8mm in a New York sale. Strong sales have strengthened market confidence and further support contemporary art as a fashionable alternative investment. Expanding their global presence, Christie’s in April had become the first international auction house to be granted with a license holding independent sales in China. On top of this, Christie’s is also the first international auctioneer to hold sales in India this year in December in Mumbai.
