Christine Jacques has won the 2014 Gladys Elphick Outstanding Community Involvement and Volunteering Award. Nominated by the City of Playford, Christine has spent the past six years educating Australians about reconciliation through the planning and creation of an interpretive garden. Located in Stebonheath Park, the garden is a place for reflection decorated with magnificent mosaic tiles. Each tile is inscribed with a message of reconciliation and encouragement by contributors like former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and musician Archie Roach. “Schools can visit the garden and students can spend time thinking about what all the symbols and messages mean,” Christine says. If you would like to contribute in some way to the garden, please contact Michelle Mitolo from City of Playford at [email protected]. Congratulations Christine!
