Christmas Eve was wonderful, but Christmas Day was a little bumpy. - TopicsExpress

Christmas Eve was wonderful, but Christmas Day was a little bumpy. First, my daughter woke up at 3am, coughing. Then my son snuck out and opened all his presents before the rest of us were up. But whatever, it was still cozy to be together and the kids loved their gifts. Then we had the bright idea of going into the city. Which actually was fine at first. We decided to visit the Botanical Gardens in Golden Gate Park, which were free for the day and absolutely gorgeous. But then, after walking through the park for about two hours, all of us were suddenly STARVING (especially me, the hypoglycemic, and our two kids). But because it was Christmas, everything was CLOSED. Still we frantically yelped and called and visited every place we could think of, hoping against hope wed find something. Sure enough, Erics Chinese Restaurant was open, but it was MOBBED. They claimed they could seat our party of 7 in 10-20 minutes. Ha! Yeah right. (Im restraining myself here from saying too much about a business owned by my ex-boyfriends family). Suffice it to say, we kept going. Finally, in desperation, Pablo stopped at a greasy shawarma dive in the Mission, but the rest of us couldnt stomach the food. So we decided to give up and drive back to Berkeley. Of course as soon as we hit the bridge, my daughter started screaming. Shed had enough. Nothing would console her; she SCREAMED ALL THE WAY HOME. Which of course set off my son, who complained the whole time, Shes driving me nuts! Yes. We know. Now shut up about it, please. By the time we reached my parents house, we were at our wits end. But then... suddenly everything was wonderful again. The kids forgot their woes, and started happily playing with their new toys. My parents disappeared into the kitchen and re-appeared five seconds later with a delicious meal: grilled salmon, Caesar salad, and black rice. And we sat down and were thankful to be together, in good health, in a beautiful home, surrounded by people who loved us, on Christmas Day. (Then the kids started squabbling again, but I was all zen from my full belly and all that other great stuff from my previous sentence, so I just blissfully floated them into their baths and bed. The end!)
