Christmas. The most exciting and celebrated holiday of the year. Its supposed to be a time of giving, a time of warmth, a time of thankfulness, a time of joy and a time of love. But instead, the holiday season has become commercialized, pregnant with greed, desensitization and stress. Stores now jack up the prices on items, doing any and everything they can to make a buck. It has gotten to the point where stores jump straight from Halloween to Christmas, without even hardly recognizing Thanksgiving! And some people are even dying trying to purchase popular name-brand items!! Let me ask you question, what does Christmas mean to you? Does it mean frantically searching for and buying gifts for friends and loved ones; some of which you can and cannot afford? Does it mean going out and buying the biggest Christmas Tree, to fill up your living room space with? Does it mean having the best Christmas Lights on display at your house for all of the neighborhood to see? Does it mean telling your kids about Santa Claus? Look, dont get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with any of the things mentioned above. However, it is important that we never forget what the REAL reason for the season is. Christmas is about the birth of an infant, to a virgin named Mary, who, was instructed by the angel Gabriel, to name HIM JESUS. Gabriel informed Mary that this baby shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob (Israel) for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (Luke 1:32,33) HE was to be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6) The night that HE was born, an angel of the Lord appeared to shepherds out on the countryside, watching over their flock, and said, Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ The Lord. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (Luke 2:10-14) This baby wasnt born in the most technological hospital at the time, nor did HE room in a 5 Star hotel. Instead, HIS bed was a manger filled with hay, the lowliest of low. HE shared HIS space with lowly beasts such as an ox and lamb, which personified HIS humbleness. This baby was sent forth to this earth from GOD the FATHER as a gift of salvation that would incorporate all tongues, peoples, tribes, and nations. HE was sent forth to this earth to become sin for us; to die as an atonement for our sins. After doing so, HE would be raised from the dead, and would eventually ascend back to the third heaven where HE would sit at the right hand of GOD THE FATHER. (Luke 22:69) This same infant, who was born over 2000 yrs ago, will soon come back to this earth as a man, as the KING OF KINGS and LORDS OF LORDS, (Revelation 19:16) with the government upon his shoulders. (Isaiah 9:6) This, my friends, is the REAL reason as to why we celebrate Christmas! Listen, even if there were no more Christmas toys to be bought and sold in stores, JESUS CHRIST would still be here! Even if there were no more stylish clothes or fancy jewelry in the stores to buy, JESUS CHRIST would still be here! Even if there were no more Christmas Trees or Christmas lights to put up, in and on, almost every home for the holidays, JESUS CHRIST would still be here! And lastly, even if Santa Claus had not been created to be the symbol for Christmas, JESUS CHRIST would still be here! Without a doubt, JESUS CHRIST is, and should be, the ONLY reason as to why we celebrate Christmas. So, this holiday season, dont worry about Santa Claus and Christmas Trees being pagan. For, as Christians, we dont serve or worship those entities, we serve and worship GOD and GOD only! Do everything you can to be stress free. And remember, this holiday, being with friends and family utilizes time, and buying gifts can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars; but the birth of a Saviour to all of mankind as a display of GODS love for HIS children, is PRICELESS! HE was, still is, and forever will be, the BEST GIFT that any of us could ever have! REAL TALK!
