Christmas Thoughts What a tree? I’m talking about the first - TopicsExpress

Christmas Thoughts What a tree? I’m talking about the first Christmas tree that Rhonda and I had in 1975. It was a spruce pine. We drove to a tree lot between Monroe and Charlotte, NC, (about 35 miles from home) to buy it. We were in our Ford Pinto hatchback. The tree was so big that when we put it in the hatch it covered the tail lights on both sides! We had to drive through Monroe like that in the rain and avoid being stopped by the police. When we got home with it we had to devise a way to stand it up in the house. We had to attach some support ropes to the walls to keep it from tipping over the bucket it was in. What a tree! This year I’m looking at our Christmas tree…sitting on top of a table. It is all of 2 ft tall and has fiber optic lights. All we have to do is plug them in and enjoy the lights. We didn’t have to travel a great distance and we didn’t need any ropes to hold it up. Yet it serves the same purpose as that first big tree. I imagine many of you have done similar. What this teaches is us that the size of the tree really doesn’t matter when it comes to celebrating Christmas. We can go big and elaborate or we can go small and simple. The message is the same…we are celebrating the birth of Jesus! Whatever size your tree this year it speaks volumes. The color green speaks of everlasting life. White speaks of purity. Blue speaks of royalty. Red speaks of the blood and righteousness. The topper will usually be a star that speaks of the star the wisemen followed or maybe an angel that speaks of the angelic announcement. Regardless the size, the message is the same…Jesus is born!!! Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Luke 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
