Christmas in New York, Video No. 22 A visit to the Lord & Taylor - TopicsExpress

Christmas in New York, Video No. 22 A visit to the Lord & Taylor windows, down on 38th Street and Fifth Avenue. Ever since Ive been in New York City, the Lord & Taylor windows have been my favorite Christmas windows. They are always animated, creative and delightful. This years windows, with an emphasis on the sweet, beautiful cardinals, especially grabbed my heart. When I was writing the Christmas Sagas (see my Web site, pmsaga, and click on The Sagas link), the story of Purple Monster, there were times in those 28 years that I would run out of ideas (I generally began each story the day after Thanksgiving -- and sometimes the idea for the Christmas Crisis didnt come until some time later, and one year it didnt come at all). Sometimes to get inspiration, I would do the annual Christmas Walk and hope that the department store windows would put me in the holiday mood. I would begin at Macys, head to B. Altman (when it was still open), then go to Lord & Taylor. After seeing those windows, I was generally quite jolly. Id continue up Fifth Avenue, say hello to Patient and Fortitude, in their Christmas wreaths, guarding the New York Public Library at 42nd Street, pass JAL and its origami tree (dont think that has been around for quite some time), go to Saks and see its windows, then turn around to view The Tree at Rockefeller Center. I would end the walk at the Tiffany windows and the snowflake above 57th Street, and sometimes took in the Bergdorf Goodman windows and the Bonwit Teller windows (another store no longer with us). One Christmas I got my idea at Macys and had fun opening the story with PM incorporated into one of those windows. So its been fun to remember the Christmas Walks and put some of my favorite places on film this year. By the way, I made five dozen Christmas snowball cookies Thursday night. And Ive eaten only one cookie (so far -- it was very, very, very good!). I plan to bake the oatmeal cranberry cookies Friday or Saturday.
