Christmas isnt that far away - less than four weeks. As you may know, those four weeks and the four Sundays prior to Christmas, are called the Advent. It is the anticipation of the commemoration of the first coming of Christ and the expectation of His second coming. During this double focused celebration some believers light a candle each week, read scripture daily and sing songs. It is one of the few celebrations that can be done in private as well in public worship. This season is marked by a spirit of expectation, anticipation, preparation and longing for Christ. At home some place a wreathe on the dining room table around the Advent candles. An appropriate location because at dinner the family would light the same candles for each week and have a devotional about that weeks theme. It is a great time of sharing faith in song, word and prayer with the family. This is the first week of Advent when the first candle is lit signifying expectation and hope of the coming of the Anointed One. This week focuses on Hope - Jesus our hope and the hope of His coming.
