Christmas time may be a joyous one for most people, but for Lacey Buenfil’s family, it’s only a reminder of the hole left in their hearts. It will be three years since Lacey disappeared on the Saturday after Christmas. Our detectives and her family are hoping someone who knows where she is will reveal the truth. “Their mother was their whole world, and they were hers,” said Cynthia Fox, grandmother of Lacey’s children. Lacey Buenfil, who would now be 28-years-old, will be missing for three years this Saturday, December 27th. She was last seen with Terry McDowell at the Citgo convenience store located at state road 19 and county road 42 in Altoona in Lake County. McDowell told investigators that his truck got stuck in Marion County and Lacey went to go get help and was never seen again. McDowell, who was the main person of interest in this case, has passed away since Lacey disappeared. Lacey’s children, now four, seven and eight years old, are in need of closure more than anyone else. “It’s a scary thing that your mom could be there one day and the next day, she could be gone with no one to answer to that, or anything, said Korey Singletary, the father of Lacey’s children. That makes life seem pretty unstable, you know. And I just want them to know and everyone else know that that’s not the case. That people just don’t disappear. That something happened, that someone was involved with this, that something terrible happened. There’s got to be a resolution for it at some point or another.” Lacey’s family will be holding a candlelight vigil for her on Saturday, December 27th at 4 p.m. at Nelson’s Fish Camp off highway 42.
