Christmas will be a very active time for us weather-wise in Southern New England. An intense storm system will pass by to our west Wednesday night into Christmas morning with periods of heavy rain, very gusty winds and even the chance of a thunderstorm. We could see localized street and poor drainage flooding with more than 2 inches of rainfall through early Thursday. The most intense rainfall is expected pre-dawn Thursday to about 9am. A FLOOD WATCH has been issued for Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. Winds will gust up to 35 miles per hour Wednesday night and will remain very gusty throughout Christmas Day. We will see patchy fog from now through Thursday morning and temperatures will be much warmer than average. The mildest temperatures will be Christmas morning when we will see the days’ highs in the lower 60s. Behind the system we will clear for Thursday afternoon but it will turn much cooler for Friday. Tonight: Cloudy with fog and a chance of showers. Low: 56. Wednesday: Showers become rain that may be heavy at times. Patchy fog as well through the day and increasing winds late. High: 56. Christmas Eve: Rain, heavy at times, with gusty winds and the chance of thunderstorms. Temperatures rising into the lower 60s. Christmas Day: Heavy rain ending before noon and windy through the day. Temperatures falling through the day. Friday: Mostly sunny. High: 48. Saturday: Mostly sunny. High: 55. Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. High: 44. Monday: Partly sunny with a slight chance of showers. High: 37. Tuesday: Cloudy with a chance of showers. High: 38.
