FRIEND OF MY ENEMY by Dennis Ogle (prologue) ■ Some things are worth dying for, and that is what makes some things worth killing for. Honor is a word made of salt, drying out the mouths of those who would bestow it upon themselves like an unearned patch that was purchased and worn without regard to those who sacrificed. You are a disgrace to achievement, an insult to merit, and I am a fool for allowing myself to believe you could change. Never the less, this is our hand and neither of us can afford to fold. Make no mistake. You have enjoyed a level of trust reserved for only the closest of my blood kin. The disappointment you have visited on me is the last thing I would ever expect from someone I once called a brother. But then, we are not brothers. All of the love, all of the time, and the hard lessons we learned together could not thin the sour traitor’s blood running through your veins like piss water. Make no mistake. I count you an enemy. Should we both live through this unfortunate commitment, make haste as you remove yourself from my presence. No more can I look upon you and call you a friend. Some things are worth dying for, and some worth killing for. Should you choose to test the mettle of my words I will cut you down without thought, as the friend I held as a brother is lost among the dead.
