Chronicles Untold: Mumtaz aur Madam ki Kahani. Why Akhuwats Khawaja Sira Socio Economic Rehabilitation Program is Important? Mumtaz and Madam were our guides of the day. They took us around and we visited several transgenders; tales that I have already told. I will not drag this long. Mumtaz has suffered from kidney failure and has to get dialysis. She was able to do a dignified job, working as a waiter for a local restaurant, but due to the high costs of dialysis, he now escapes in the wee hours with other Khawaja Siras, to earn a living through dance and begging. Nausher Khan, asked me to touch her arm, to feel the pain she lives in, the feel and look of it was terrifying. Maybe thats one of the reasons that it has become a bit tough to find sleep these days. Mumtaz was also married to a female once, since the family thought that this will make him a man once again. Unfortunately, the lady had to seek a divorce since he is incapable to make love. He doesnt feel sad about, in fact, that was the only time she smiled throughout the conversation and through that pain she lives in. Shes happy that the life of the lady didnt get ruined because of her. Madam throughout her life earned through the ways she didnt want to. But, it was a matter of survival. Today, she requests us to also focus our energies on the young transgenders. She feels that training them, giving them loans and by setting them up respectful livelihoods, sanity can be restored into their lives. Madam has a loving sister, who made her a room by breaking down the latrines in her alley. The smell was unbearable, but for once felt happy that there was someone there to care of her. We were there astonishingly for 30 minutes. Mumtaz survives on 1 nan per day and cannot drink water. Since the more she drinks, the more it affects her kidney. She cannot afford to get dialysis twice a week, so she skips it often. Prefers to live in pain, because living in pain is a normal lifestyle for them. - This is what were cycling for, this is what Pedal for Peace means. All set to start the effort from 20th onwards. Wish us luck!
