Theres 200 billion shit amateur vids on youtube already, along with the same number of shit albums on soundcloud and an unquantifiably huge amount of shit journalism all over the web. The DIY ethic is pretty much spent as an artistic force .... open-source platforms and the digital creative media revolution can only deliver quantity, not quality. How about a focus on quality? How about NOT uploading your creative content unless youre truly convinced its worthy of global dissemination alongside the frontrunners in your field? Sometimes those much-maligned gatekeepers are sorely needed to prevent human creativity becoming buried in an avalanche of shit. The digital revolution made it easier then ever before to create, disseminate and store information, including creative content. That bit is done. The challenge now is filtering and retrieving the good bits.
