Church, about a week ago Sue Tidwell posted the content below and it generated a ton of interest. As far as I know, there have been no decisions made about a night time class. However, one member of Sues group, Sandra Kelly, felt moved to write the content I have posted below Sues. Its a beautiful indication of the makeup and sentiment of this study group and sells the idea way better than anything I have heard in a long time. Sandras heartfelt words can serve as an invitation to join, or just a reflection of pure Christian feelings. While she quotes Borg for support, the sentiments are all Sandras. God bless her gentle spirit and inquisitive mind. She and Sue are treasures, I hope our church realizes the depths of their faith and biblical knowledge. Sues post is below to remind you where all this started... Sues original post: The book study group will begin a new book on January 7. Jesus: Uncovering the Life, Teachings, and Relevance of a Religious Revolutionary by Marcus Borg. The basic theme is Gods character is compassion. Gods passion is justice. Justice is the social form of compassion. Please join us next Wednesday to learn more about the book and the group. From Sandra: Our book about Jesus takes us from first century and twenty-first century look at Jesus, shaped by historical scholarship even as it also addressed to Christians (and interested inquirers) in our cultural context. Unity of spirit with divergence of opinions works in this group not because of tolerance, but because we not only respect but love one another. We gathered together (Wed.) one in spirit; sharing in diverse thoughts allowing for unity in love, to overwhelm any conflict of beliefs. We saw the concrete, lileralist and the metaphorical viewer, to all freely express their emotions and opinions.
