Church=\=congregation Church=\= denomination Church= people who believe (probably all mixed up with doubt) gathered around reading Scripture together, thinking about it, sharing a meal together, trusting God meets them there, and then going out into the world to serve it. Denominations and congregations are the human institutions weve built up around this. The particulars of our human institutions are not necessary. Every congregation and denomination we know might die, and the Church will still go on. As a professional who works within these institutions, these thoughts are terrifying. But as a believer, they are a source of life and hope and wholeness.
